Rahman wins Grammy
The Oscar winning music composer, the Mozart of Madras, AR Rahman, has won two Grammy Awards for his music in the Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire. He won the Grammys for the best soundtrack and the best motion picture song.
At the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night (Monday morning in India), Rahman struck the first gold at the pre-show.
His score in Slumdog Millionaire won the best compilation soundtrack for a motion picture category.
Moments later Jai Ho – the song composed by Rahman, penned by Gulzar and sung by Sukhvinder – won the Grammy for the Best Motion picture song, beating competitors like Bruce Springstein.
After receiving the award Rahman said, “Hey guys back in India. Awesome we got two Grammys again. God bless you all for your prayers. Your good wishes and love.”
He won in both the categories he was nominated for.
The double triumph for Rahman at the Grammys follows his double triumph for his music in Slumdog Millionaire at the 2009 Academy Awards.
